QUANTITY AND WORK ETHIC
This week, I want to focus on something crucial: your work ethic and the importance of putting in the hours. It's early days but we’ve already noticed that many of you aren’t spending as much time at your desks as you could - or, arguably, should - be, and it’s something worth reflecting on. Here are some eye-opening numbers to think about. If you’re only utilising 50% of your working week and letting the other half slip by, it’s the equivalent of trying to complete a 3-year degree in just 1.5 years. Sure, you could technically get it done in that time, but there’s a catch: you won’t have the chance to build the deep, meaningful illustration practice that turns skills into a career. That’s the difference between just getting a degree and truly mastering your craft. Let’s compare it to a tennis player aiming for Wimbledon. Do you think the players who skip practice or put in the bare minimum stand any chance of winning? Of course not. Here’s the not-so-secret formula for success: it takes a lot of work. And it has to start now. Simple as that. The ball’s in your court! |

Welcome to our 'An Audience with...' programme, a unique series of Q&A sessions featuring accomplished practitioners from the illustration industry. These sessions provide an invaluable opportunity to engage directly with industry professionals, ask questions, and gain insights into their work and creative processes.
The sessions take place on Tuesdays from 2 to 3 PM (unless otherwise specified). Full details of the programme can be found within the top folder of every Blackboard module page and here. To make the most of these sessions, you're required to research each guest artist in advance and prepare thoughtful questions to deepen your understanding and enrich the discussion. |
