Semester 1 | Week 6
We're Halfway There
Way back in the hazy days of the late 80s—a time that did, in fact, happen, and isn't just a narrative device thought up by the boffins at Netflix — Jon Bon Jovi and his merry band of rock 'n' roll troubadours delivered a timeless anthem: "We're halfway there!" they sang, and while they probably didn't have the first semester of an academic year in mind, the sentiment resonates.
Yes, here we are, Week 6 of the academic calendar, officially “halfway there,” where *“there”* marks the arrival of Christmas break.
As for what exactly Jon and his Jovi Crew were halfway to? The details have been lost to the mists of time, the end of a particularly large can of hairspray, the end of fashion sense as we know it, but the takeaway remains: we’re halfway, folks, so let’s keep the momentum going—big hair optional.

Note from the Editor:
This is the fourth year in a row that we’ve opened the S1W6 Newsletter with this post and video. To date, not a single student has laughed* or commented positively. Just so you know—we’re fully committed to this bit. As long as no one laughs, we’ll keep posting.
*Sara Ogilvie, our former external examiner, did once email to say she found it funny. But since she’s not a student, it doesn’t count.
